Common Roofing Problems

Your roofing is the first and most important piece of protection that your home has against weather and the elements. However, that means that it’s typically the first part of your home to be damaged, and it could suffer significant damage at any time. When any problems occur with your roofing, no matter how small or large they are, they need to be repaired as soon as possible, or they’ll grow and spread very quickly.

At Bondoc Roofing, our San Antonio roofing contractors can repair any problems with your roofing as quickly and efficiently as possible, and we recommend that your roofing inspected by a professional roofer at least once every three years in order to find smaller problems before they develop into serious issues. If you’re able to identify these problems more quickly, you’ll have a much better chance of being able to contact a professional for repairs as soon as possible.

In order to help you find roofing problems as soon as possible once they occur, we’ve compiled a list of the most common:

Roof Leaks

No matter what kind of roofing materials you have on your San Antonio home, roof leaks can be detrimental to your roofing and to your home. Leaks can be caused by a number of different things, which is part of the reason they’re so common, but the two most likely causes of leaks are joint damage and flashing damage.

  • Joints are any part of your roof where a break in the roofing occurs, like between two sloped sections of roofing, or where a chimney meets the roof. These parts of your roofing are highly susceptible to damage, but they aren’t extremely difficult to fix if you catch the problem quickly enough.
  • “Flashing” is a term that refers to any number of different waterproofing materials. Flashing is used wherever something sticks up through the roof, like a chimney, pipes, or vent stacks to protect against leaks in these areas. However, over the years, parts of your roof that have flashing can become weak spots where rain is able to get underneath your shingles. If the problem is caught early enough, this area can easily be resealed, but extensive repairs may be required if it’s left untreated for any period of time.

Weather Damage

Roofs are specifically designed the be able to withstand a good amount of weather without being damaged, but as your San Antonio home’s first line of defense, they’re usually the first thing to be damaged during a storm. Some common problems that tend to get overlooked after a storm include:

  • Slouching
  • Missing or Damaged Shingles
  • Moisture Damage

If any shingles become loose, wind can easily get underneath them and rip them up. After that, many other parts of your roofing will be much more vulnerable to damage. If you suspect any damage has occurred during a storm, call our professionals for an inspection as soon as possible.
