Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts from Bondoc Roofing
Through a collaboration of efforts, UTSA students were able to help a family recover from the effects by Hurricane Harvey. While exercising community leadership and stewardship, UTSA students acquired all needed roofing materials though donations. Sponsors for this community service project include GSABA, Bondoc Roofing, Kiewit Offshore Services and TAMKO Building Products. UTSA is very thankful because without the help and support from our sponsors this project would not have been made possible.
Members of the NAHB student chapter of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a donation of materials from Bondoc Roofing and others chipped in to help one particular Aransas Pass family in need, due to Hurricane Harvey.
Over the weekends of Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 14-15, the Construction Science and Management student chapter members banded together to complete a roof replacement. The home owners had no home insurance and are housing their adult son and his family, whose own house was destroyed by the hurricane. The family was overwhelmed by their generosity.
Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) members Southern Shingles, TAMKO, and Bondoc Roofing together donated nearly $4,000 in materials for the project.
Required scope of work for the weekend included replacing all fascia board, repair/replacement of decking, removing previous roofing materials, and installation of moisture barrier. The project began the weekend of October 7th with students showing up bright and early to demo the existing roofing materials. By the end of the weekend, all of this was accomplished and ready for inspection from Texas Windstorm Inspection.
